Fell and Spooked

Hi all! Yesterday Mandy and I went Sera picking, which is picking the young willow leaves and preserving them in seal oil. I do not have seal oil and may not preserve them that way. I would like to use them as a salad along with cabbage. We found some willows really close by.

We followed an enclosed trail full of willows and found a trail to a wide circular opening. I'm not sure how this go here, maybe someone is looking to build on this land. It looks like a lot to me. Well, as I was picking and Berry was running back and forth near us, I started walking further over some thick brush. I lost my balance and fell something flew up and away! Any guesses? It was a duck! I searched and lo and behold found a nest full of 12 eggs. It was amazing because the whole nest was made out of feathers. I guess I thought they would use other things. She of course did not return and Mandy and decided we would not tell anyone about the nest because the eggs would be gone. The natives go egg hunting and eat the duck, crane, seagull eggs they find. These eggs would feed a family of six but I just couldn't tell anyone.

I'm surprised Berry did not find the nest or the duck. She is always bird crazy!

I also believe found raspberries or strawberries, but when looked in the plant book the leaves did not match up exactly, but it could still be them. I'll have to check later on in the season.

Today, I'm helping out with a Vacation Bible School picnic up the beach. It should be a lot of fun. HOpefully the rain will hold off.
